We need to make the economic case for rule-of-law.

Rule-of-law and democratic processes, over the long-term, promote political stability. Political stability, over the long-term, promotes wealth.

Not the only factor, but one of them.

Incumbent GOP gubernatorial election deniers however won: Greg Abbott and

Kay Ivey leap to mind.

Great piece Tim. You are absolutely right, we must keep fighting because the Christofascists are not giving up. They've been planning and praying for a Christian authoritarian state for decades and they gave us Trump, not the other way around. Bannon won't let them quit now.

Great article. But I do think we were lucky. A gift from the worst Supreme Court in modern history. That bench is trapped in a toxic bubble. Lucky or not this election gives Democrats an opportunity to promote Biden’s legislative wins as they hit the street in ‘23. Failure to effectively communicate these pocketbook successes will be costly. Doing it well should finally bury election deniers and move a greater number of Americans to support prosecution of Trump.

I enter the eighth decade of my life with renewed faith in the American electorate and the triumph of liberal democracy.

good article. I think I was happiest when Josh Shapiro and John Fetterman won in PA. But Kari Lake losing is also very satisfying. I contributed to all of these campaigns (pat me on the back). And the Orange Dude is back again! I think it is a good thing because him shooting off his mouth will remind everyone how horrible he is.

If the Democrats hadn’t so badly underperformed in NewYork, they would have kept control of the House. And then there’s California….

Kari Lake's defeat was sweet but I'm still holding on to hope that Looney Tune Boebert will eventually lose. It is encouraging to see voters pay no attention to polls and talking heads.

To nobody's surprise, guess who's running. Did anyone remind the so-called rich baby that his legal bills won't be paid by the RNC any more?

Thank ~ by any name ~ God for the resistance Americans showed to tyranny, to despicable power-mad liars, to all those who have sold their souls for a little orange glitter. Right on, Tim! And thank you and the Bulwark family for all the work y’all have done to Act, Resist, and stand for sanity. decency, reasoned discourse and dispute, for honesty, integrity, and our grand experiment. I have always been a left of center Democrat, hewing to my vow to stay engaged and never give up, following the shattering of my youthful dreams with the assassination of JFK, followed by MLK and RFK. But the brutal testing of that deepest resolve during Trump was aided so much by finding the Bulwark, people with whom I might disagree with on policy, but am so grateful to for carving out an island of sanity! Thank you, each and every one and all of your guest contributors!!

Yes, truly glorious victory and one to celebrate! My mood has been one of elation every since last Tuesday evening when we started to see that there would be no red wave. And it keeps getting better and better as more and more races are called for Democrats. Arizona's results were surprising but so exciting, just seeing Kari Lake lose was a great victory to savor. And winning the Senate seat in Nevada, and seeing Kent get beat here locally, all were such great news. The party of UGHLY and dishonest has been beaten back by folks who want truth and justice and democracy. Yeah, time to get myself a martini....or two!
